Hamilton 24 - 28 November Year 9-13 students in Hamilton were challenged to design a poster as part of the Healthy Relationship Poster Competition for White Ribbon Day. Students needed to show the difference between a good relationship and a bad one.

The winning poster is being printed for national distribution. The winning artist will win a new Sanyo M1 Mobile Phone, as well as winning $350 of art supplies for their school.

A selection of the posters will be displayed at Hamilton Central Library over the week 24 – 28 November.

Waikato Migrant Resource Centre, Boundary Road, Hamilton Friday 28 November, 7pm Movie Screening: 'Mending Spirits'
A documentary about the emotional, spiritual and psychological journeys of women who leave abusive relationships. Three women tell how they reclaimed their lives in the aftermath of domestic violence. Their stories are echoed by voices from around the world. These voices recorded at The Rally for Women's Lives held in Washington D.C. and the U.N. Conference on Women, last held in Beijing, China convey the universality of the problem of domestic abuse. White Ribbon Coast to Coast Classic Car & Motorcycle Rally. All bikes welcome. Come join other men to make a stand against violence towards women and children.

White Ribbon classic car and motorcycle rally, with riders coming from as far as Tauranga and Taranaki. Over 200 plus bikes expected. Will include classic cars, hot rods and modified Japanese cars.

Central Square, Fielding Friday 21 November,
12:30pm - 4pm
There will be formal speakers (Mayor and local MP) between 12:30 and 1pm, and then there will be musical performances by local schools and community groups throughout the afternoon.

There will also be an art competition for local schools and early childhood education centre.  Local sports personalities will award the prizes – donated by local businesses.

National White Ribbon Day Men's Breakfast
Steve Logan & Al Brown (from Logan Brown and TV1's "Hunger for the Wild") along with Citron's Rex Morgan are serving up breakfast to 120 men who are in some way or another supporting efforts to end family violence.

Speakers include Alfred Ngaro (community leader and parent educator), Neville Robertson (community psychologist and researcher into violence against women), Richard Clarke (General Manager of the Breakers), Heather Henare (Chief Executive of Women's Refuge) and Hone Kaa (Senior Anglican minister and chair of national Maori child advocacy group Te Kahui Mana Ririki).

We will gather at the Paraparaumu boating club for an event which will include launching Kapiti’s ‘turn the tide’ anti violence song written and performed by the band Black Eyed Susie.

Waiheke Island 22-25 November 16 Days of Activism
Living Without Violence Waiheke is getting as many businesses as possible on board to display a White Ribbon box full of ribbons on their counters.

On 22 November volunteers will have a stall at the local market where they will give away ribbons and pamphlets as well as fresh flowers from their own gardens.

On 25 November special guests and the public are invited to an event at Alison Park where a special White Ribbon flag will be raised to half mast and will stay there during the 16 days of activism. Refreshments will be handed out after the event.

Tuesday 25 November, 5.30pm - 8pm The launch of a DVD about being a Dad by Dads. The DVD has been produced by TMAV and features Tairawhiti men talking about their experiences of fatherhood - it also includes an activity book of 52 ideas for weekly ‘Whanau Nights'. The evening will include a light meal, entertainment and the first public screening of the DVD.

Spot the White Ribbon
Five metre high White Ribbons will be placed around the Greymouth township and members of the public are challenged to find them all and ring the local radio station naming all five locations. The winner will receive dinner for two kindly donated by Kingsgate.

 
Westport, Greymouth & Hokitika November The Te Rito Family Violence group have organised a variety of events around the Greymouth area. Static displays will be put up in public places including a number of prominent male orientated businesses in the area. Hokitika Primary School November Hokitika Primary School is organising two competitions. The older children are designing bumper stickers and the winning entry will receive a prize as well as be printed up and distributed. The younger children in the school will design posters which will be displayed in the stores around the town. Hokitika Primary School
Nelson 22 & 23 November The Nelson Tasman Te Rito Network is doing a combined stand at the A&P show. A group of agencies will be on a stand giving out information packs about agencies resources and handing out White Ribbons over the entire weekend. Nelson Tasman Te Rito Network

The Peace Foundation will be hosting the 1000 PeaceWomen Exhibition on the 2nd Floor of the James Smith's Building. Organisers will be giving away ribbons to those going through the exhibition.

Wairarapa November School art competition - school children are being challenged to make a commitment to safe, healthy families by creating a banner on their thoughts/beliefs/experiences of being violence-free. The entries will be judged by Ian Chapman of King St Artworks with the winning primary and secondary schools each receiving $500 in art supplies. Winners will be awarded their prizes at a special prize giving on White Ribbon Day 25 November where helium filled white balloons with white ribbons attached will be released in an 'uplifting' symbolism of support. Masterton Town Hall Saturday 22 November Whakamoe Patu concert - an evening event featuring Ngati Kahungunu youth group "Whakamoe Patu" (Lay your arms to rest) - an outstanding portrayal of our young peoples' vision for a violence free generation through song, dance and drama. Masterton Tuesday 25 November Morning commuters at all stations in the Wairarapa will be given white ribbons to wear on their trip into Wellington. Volunteers will walk the streets of all the towns in the area handing out ribbons to lunchtime shoppers. Family Violence Network - Masterton
Whakatane Tuesday 25 November Te Roopu Whiriwhiri is partnering with Allandale Primary School to trial a number of white ribbon events. The whole school will wear white on 25 November. They are organising a motorcycle rally, a bicycle rally for Dads and sons, A Dad's or Significant Male lunch with Tug o War, Games, Touch, Slippery Slide, a banner of handprints illustrating Hands against Violence, white paper ribbons tied to the fence outside the school and senior students will create and perform puppet plays on healthy and unhealthy ways of inter-acting.

Te Roopu Whiriwhiri is also organising white ribbons to be displayed outside of the 27 collaborative agencies in the area.

Waitakere Hospital - Snelgar Building carpark Tuesday 25 November, 10.15am

White Ribbon Day March
Waitemata District Heath Board, Waitemata District Police, Waitakere City Council and the WAVES network of family violence prevention and intervention agencies are planning a march under the banner "Family Violence - It's NOT OK" within Waitakere. The objective is to show community solidarity and promote key information to the public about taking appropriate action to prevent family violence.

This is the third year Waitakere has organised a White Ribbon Day march.

Waitakere 25 November onwards Waitakere artist Donna Sarton is working collaboratively with Violence Free Waitakere and other agencies operating in Massey to create the first of seven doors looking at the inside story and pathways away from the violence within our families. This installation will be the catalyst for other agencies and artists to adopt a door and work together over the following year to create a large scale exhibition for White Ribbon Day 2009.  
Waitakere - Corbans Estate Arts Centre 23 November 10am -4pm Come and make a banner to be used in the White Ribbon March on November 25. The aim is to have as many local organisations, schools and families marching on November 25 behind banners they have made themselves and reflecting what White Ribbon Day means to them.

Some paint and materials supplied but please bring fabric, brushes and paint and any other banner making materials if you have them. All donations welcome.

Majestic Square, Wanganui (middle of Victoria Ave) Saturday 22 November 10.30am - 1.00pm Whanganui Family Violence Intervention Network are coinciding our event with the local Christmas Parade which starts at 1.00pm on the same day. The event will be energetic - with a DJ, sausage sizzle, MCs promoting the powerful message, facepainters, entertainment which may include krumping and modern dance, singing and kapa haka. Volunteers in Katikati are targeting all the local churches, social services, schools and childcare centres with a mail out. Flyers, posters and ribbons will be given to all the shops in the area and the local paper will publish an article.

Women of all ages, including Intermediate & Secondary School students are invited to attend this FREE evening.

Fordlands, Rotorua Saturday 22 November The Challenge Violence Trust will be one of a number of organisations promoting their community services at the Fordlands Fun Day. There will be fun things for children to do and stall holders will be handing out ribbons. CBD Awareness-raising
Male staff from Venture Taranaki, Sport Taranaki, CapNZ, District Council and Police will assist with manning the stand and additional CBD locations - handing out ribbons/lollies.

CBD Window Competition
A "Black to Whiteout" window campaign/competition, where CBD businesses will decorate their frontages in a black & white theme. The best decorated window will be judged by local radio station Radio Works as part of their event promotion.

25 November
Stalls handing out white ribbons and information at Auckland City Hospital and Greenlane Clinical Centre. The ‘you will know' Brothers against Violence DVD will be playing on a large TV screen in ACH.

26 November
White Ribbon Day Event 1 -3pm, Auditorium, CEC, Auckland City Hospital.
This has been organised by the Auckland District Health Board in partnership with He Kamaka Oranga, Preventing Violence in the Home and Auckland Regional Public Health Service.

Male staff from Venture Taranaki, Sport Taranaki, CapNZ, District Council and Police will assist with manning the stall and will also be at other CBD locations handing out ribbons and lollies.

MSD Taranaki
Yarrow Stadium, New Plymouth 30 November, 1pm - 5pm FREE day of fun for families. There is a sausage sizzle and ice-creams plus lots of giveaways. Children will be given a bag with the messages "TARANAKI - WHERE FAMILY VIOLENCE IS NOT OK" & "LET'S MAKE TARANAKI FAMILIES VIOLENCE FREE" printed on them. Activities will be fun and have an element of challenge about them so families have to work together to complete them.

Many Taranaki organisations are involved in the event such as the Police, Fire Service, Sport Taranaki, Rotary, Soroptimists, CYF, Tu Tama Wahine, Moore FM, NPDC, Taranaki Rescue Helicopter, Family & Community Services and several other community organisations.

- Ziggy's Dairy in Wainuiomata will wear White Ribbons
- All Marae will be supporting the event this year. White Ribbons are available here too
- Hutt Hospital will have White Ribbons available at the main doors and will support the campaign with information and resource displays
- RIPE Café inside the hospital will also support the campaign, with displays and White Ribbons available on the counter

Monday 24 November
Peace March, Signing of the Pledge, Community Photograph - Upper Hutt
- 10.15am start, meeting on the front steps of the Upper Hutt City Council building, Fergusson Drive, UH. Marchers will walk through the Main Street, returning to Council buildings where key note speakers will acknowledge White Ribbon Day.
- 11.25am Sign the pledge and commit to living without violence.
- 11.50am Be there to be part of the community photograph. Remember to wear your white ribbon.

The Lower Hutt Christmas Parade - Naenae Intermediate Christmas Parade Float will support the campaign by having an ‘Increase The Peace' theme. Come and enjoy the contemporary retro float created with passion and enthusiasm by the Naenae Intermediate kids.
