Abstract:
This article examines the theories which inform understanding of the impact of trauma on children's issues, including psychology, psychiatry, psychoanalysis and psychotherapy. The role of social work theory in developing intervention strategies is explored and the gap between theoretical formulations and the lived experiences of the children is identified. The poststructuralist approach is discussed and the outcomes for children analysed. The question of the importance of not losing sight of the individual child is emphasised
